CORE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION
The Speech Language Pathologist will provide rehabilitation, communication training, and restoration services along with assessments and referrals of clients.  As a key member of the inter-professional team, the Speech Language Pathologist will:

• Perform clinic and in home assessment, treatment, health education and other speech and language therapy activities according to the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario. 
• Implement appropriate strategies by working with the inter-professional team using a client centered approach.  
• Contribute to chart documentation, participate in chart reviews and case conferences, and make internal and external referrals.
• Participate in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of treatment, education, counselling and health promotion programs and services for individuals, families and the community. 
• Ensure speech and language therapy areas, resources, materials and equipment are maintained.
• Contribute to the ongoing development and implementation of seniors’ health services; organizational initiatives that are relevant to the care of seniors and that actively link frail and pre-frail seniors. 
• Demonstrate a commitment to a safe environment for staff, clients and families by working in compliance with the WECHC related policies, health and safety regulations and completing mandated training and educational sessions as required.  

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED  
• Minimum 3-5 years recent experience in speech language therapy working with the senior and youth population, with preference to those who have worked in a community health setting.
• Proficiency in current assessment, and therapeutic design techniques working with seniors.
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of community resources specific to the senior’s population.  
• Strong attention to patient and family-centered care and establishing therapeutic relationships. 
• Trained in proper transfer/lifting techniques.
• Must have experience in program development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. 
• Must provide a clean Driver’s Abstract.  Current, valid Class “G” Driver’s License is required and reliable personal transportation to support travel between locations. 
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in an inter-professional team environment. 
• Strong communication and excellent interpersonal skills, combined with good analytical, problem solving, organizational and administrative skills.
• Ability to speak a second language is preferred.
• Proficiency in the use of computers and various software applications.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS
• Graduate degree in Speech Language Pathology from a recognized University.  
• Member in good standing and current Registration with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario.
