About Us

Windsor Essex Community Health Centre, Chronic Disease offers specialized programming for individuals living with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Three separate programs have been designed: COPD Wellness One: Education and Exercise Program, COPD Wellness Two: Maintenance Exercise Program and COPD Education.

COPD Wellness One combines education and exercise. This program aims to support clients who have experienced little or no intervention managing their COPD. The client is supported by a Nurse Practitioner and Physiotherapist.

COPD Wellness One teaches:

  • Breathing management
  • Energy conservation
  • Medication and inhaler techniques
  • Exacerbations and action plan
  • Stress management
  • Healthy lifestyle

COPD Wellness Two is about maintenance and monitoring. Clients who have graduated from COPD Wellness One have access to our exercise maintenance program. Participants are supported by our Nurse Practitioner and Physiotherapist.

COPD Wellness Two engages the client in:

  • circuit training
  • track walking
  • low impact aqua fit classes
  • smoking reduction counselling
  • outdoor walking programs
  • indoor mall walking programs

COPD Education provides education and support to clients who have been diagnosed with COPD. Caregivers are encouraged to attend. The course is once a week for six weeks and is primarily facilitated by our Nurse Practitioner and Physiotherapist.
