Regional Initiatives - Windsor Essex
Windsor Essex Community Health Centres - Home Safety and Grab Bar Program - This program targets seniors aged 65 years+, who are at risk for falls. The program covers the cost of grab bars and their installation for people who cannot afford to do so. A Windsor Essex Community Health Centre occupational therapist (OT) will come to your home to identify potential changes in your home that could improve your safety including any equipment that would be helpful and/or referrals to additional healthcare professionals or in home supports. VON - Exercise Program - As part of Ontario’s commitment to help more seniors stay healthy and active, the Erie St. Clair Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) has chosen the ESC VON to provide group exercise and falls prevention classes. Click here for more details on the VON Exercise Program.
Geriatric Assessment Program - The primary goal of the program is to promote independence and to avoid institutionalization of persons over 65 years of age who are frail, at risk or exhibit complex or multiple problems. Windsor Essex Networking Association for Geriatrics - The WENAG is a free and open networking group that meets once a month from September through June on the 2nd Tuesday of every month (except July and August). Click here to learn more about WENAG.
Age Friendly Community - Age Friendly planning is a global initiative of the World Health Organization (WHO), designed to encourage communities that are supportive of active aging by creating environments that are more inclusive, respectful and accessible. The Windsor Seniors Advisory Committee links Windsor Seniors to current services via the Windsor-Essex Smart Community Portal, provides a forum for voicing opinions on issues that affect Seniors, and much more.
